Initiative for Multilingual Studies

The Initiative for Multilingual Studies (IMS) is committed to advancing knowledge in various domains of multilingualism through interdisciplinary empirical research. It supports its members in the design, funding, conduct, and communication of research about the benefits of multilingualism as well as the misunderstanding and mismanagement of multilingualism.

IMS studies the benefits of multilingualism in neurocognitive, academic, economic, personal, social, and geopolitical domains. When studying the misunderstanding and mismanagement of multilingualism, IMS pays particular attention to vulnerable communities, such as immigrants, Indigenous peoples, regional minorities, and marginalized groups such as Deaf and LGBTQI+ communities.
