More about the GSO Teaching and Mentorship Awards:

During the past academic year, the Graduate Student Organization (GSO), in cooperation with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, created three new campus-wide teaching awards:

The Graduate Teaching Award to recognize graduate students who have served as instructors, the Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for superior teaching assistants, and the Faculty Mentorship Award to honor exceptional faculty for their contributions to excellence in the mentorship and instruction of graduate students.

A committee of doctoral students, master’s students, and faculty reviewed an overwhelming number of nominations and applications and chose the winners for the graduate student awards, while the graduate student body voted for the winners of the faculty award. The GSO is pleased to announce the results (in no particular order):

Graduate Teaching Award Recipients:

Amelia Tseng, PhD in Linguistics
Maureen Russo, PhD in Spanish and Portuguese
Jessica Grieser, PhD in Linguistics

Graduate Teaching Assistant Award Recipients:

Joseph Rees, PhD in Philosophy
Stephanee Synnot, PhD in Chemistry
Caity Brown, PhD in Government
Honore Tchou, MS in Foreign Service
Ludwig Jung, MS in Foreign Service (Finalist)

Faculty Mentorship Award:

Emily Francomano, Spanish and Portuguese
Patrick O’Malley, English
David Edelstein, Government, School of Foreign Service
Maureen Lewis, School of Foreign Service
Alison Mackey, Linguistics (Finalist)
Amy Liu, Physics (Finalist)

The recipients and finalists were honored at a reception in early May attended by Provost Bob Groves and Dean Gerald Mara. At the reception, we also publicly announced that the Faculty Mentorship Award would be named in honor of Dean Mara in recognition of his long service to Georgetown and his own exceptional record as a faculty mentor.
