Nicole De Los Reyes

Nicole Casin De Los Reyes earned her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from Georgia State University in August 2025. She also holds an M.S.Ed. in TESOL from the University of Pennsylvania and a self-designed B.A. in Japanese and Linguistics from The College of New Jersey.

Prior to joining Georgetown, she taught language courses (ESL and Japanese) and content courses in applied linguistics and statistics across community and university settings. Her courses have included Introduction to Linguistics, Languages of the World, English Grammar in Use, and Introduction to Statistical Inference with R Lab. As a first-generation student from an immigrant Filipino family, she approaches teaching with intentionality and authenticity, building meaningful learning relationships grounded in a genuine interest in students as individuals.

Her research intersects corpus linguistics, second language acquisition, and educational technology, with a focus on developing data-driven learning materials for less commonly taught languages. In her dissertation, she explored the practical application of distinctive collexeme analysis and item-in-construction analysis to examine Tagalog's symmetrical voice system, connecting corpus-based findings to the design of open educational resources for heritage and foreign language learners. This work advances linguistic diversity in applied linguistics research while supporting heritage language preservation among underrepresented communities affected by language loss. Her interest as a researcher is extending the application of corpus approaches to underrepresented languages and underexplored discourse domains.
