Transition Plan for Continuing Linguistics Majors

Majors currently in the program can meet their core requirements by taking 4 old courses (old curriculum: 213, 214, 225, 226), 4 new courses (Tier II new curriculum), or a mixture, with the caveats that the number of required courses is not reduced, and that old and new courses that cover the same material can't both count. That is:

1. Students must take either:
        a. Phonetics (213) and Phonology (214), or
        b. Sounds of Language (215) and
                i. How Languages are Learned (252) or
                ii. Language and Society (283)

2. Students must take either
        a. Syntax (225) and Morphology (226), or
        b. Grammatical Analysis (224) and
                i. How Languages are Learned (252) or
                ii. Language and Society (283)

3. All other requirements for current students remain unchanged. Current students are not required to take Tier III courses, but may choose to do so as electives.

4. Current students who are unable to complete the requirements as specified, due to study abroad or other insurmountable scheduling problems, must meet with their advisors to create an alternative plan, which must be approved by the DUS.

Minors currently in the program may take any two of the courses required under either the old or new curriculum, with the caveat that old and new courses that cover the same material can't both count. In addition, minors take Intro to Language and 3 electives.
