Second Qualifying Paper (QP2)
Doctoral students must submit a Second Qualifying Paper (QP2) during their final semester of coursework. The QP2 must be of publishable quality in an appropriate journal in the student's concentration. If the paper is not of passing quality, the student will be given one more opportunity to submit a satisfactory paper. The second attempt will be due during the next semester. If the second submission is not satisfactory, the student will not be permitted to continue in the Ph.D. program.
The Second Qualifying Paper (QP2) is written on a topic in the area of the student's specialization. The QP2 must not be co-authored. The criterion will be that the paper be of publishable quality in an appropriate journal in the student's concentration.
Submitting your QP2: You must submit two copies of your QP2 and the submission form to the Graduate Program Assistant (GPA). Your QP2 will then be forwarded to the Director of Graduate Studies who will appoint two faculty members who have expertise in the subject area to evaluate the paper.
Please be sure to review the Graduate Student Handbook (for the year in which you entered) for additional details and the Calendar of Important Dates for submission deadlines.
